I know I'm gonna be a minority on this, but I just downloaded the expansion from Direct2Drive. As I previously posted, I wanted 2 copies, as I wanted to give one as a gift. First off there was no option for updating the quanitity. :-? All I wanted was to purchase an extra license to keep everything above board, and then give that license to my brother. No way Jose. :-? So I figure ok, I'll just download it twice and put the 2nd in a different directory. Sorry Charlie, you purchased it once, can't purchase it again. :o So then I try to select "yes" that it's a gift. Well then they want the receiver's info. I know for a fact the person I'm giving it too isn't gonna want an account on that site or them having his email address. All I wanted was to give him a copy with no strings attached. And they force you to create an account for the person, so only they can download it?? What if they have a dialup connection?? OR some other limitation?? That just sux as far as I'm concerned. :down: My main intent was for Subsim to get a little credit for my purchases, that's all. And they did, for my purchase. But now I'm gonna have to go to UBI and download it from their site. Just wanted to post a little heads up incase anyone else was thinking the same thing.

I am having no luck dowloading from Direct2Drive this week-end. Their dowload manager will install into my ActiveX but it won't download to my PC. If I bypass the Download Manager application, I can begin the download of the zip file but it either times out or it is corrupted if it completes.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

I AM STUPID, because when I got SH4 for Christmas and started playing the game, I got addicted and play it every weekend for a couple of hours. That was really stupid :damn: :rotfl:

So you must buy it in a shop when you are in Europe. I don't know why. Maybe it is one of those silly European Commission Rules? Who cares. Going to shoot some more merchants. :sunny:

Guess I'm a few days late answering this but YES you can D/L the U-Boats ( 1.5 patch ? ) to your H/D then Burn as a CD. I did this a few weeks ago with no problems.

Just for the heck of it I just now went through the fundamentals of D/L the U-Boat add-on and I had to stop at "Place Order" as I was about to buy it again. :oops: I had no problems. When I first D/L U-Boats a couple months ago I clicked on "Add To Cart", found that was a NO-NO for some reason as it ( as you ) would not let me go into check out. I therefore tried "Checkout" ( where the yellow fist-finger is pointing first pic ) and Walla I was at checkout as shown in the second pic.

Try it again steve by just going straight to "Checkout".

Is there an activation key to install the addon? If so, does anyone know if it has an limit on installs? I've read that games bought via D2D have limits on how many times it can be installed and either have to repurchase the game or contact D2D for another key. Plus I've had problems D/L from D2D in the past before I found out the above. I'd like to get it here to help support the site, but since I wipe and reinstall my computer about every 6 months or so, I really don't want the hassle of trying to get permission to install a game I already bought.

The activation key I am sent by D2D is no good. :doh:

Situation was finally resolved last night. All I know is that D2D told me to try reactivation again, and it worked this time. I assume they did something on the back end, but I don't know what.

I noticed the last post in this thread was back in October and like a few of the previous posts, I've had trouble getting the D2D Activation Key to retake. I moved the game to a new computer with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Besides messing with the Vista-better-way-of-doing-things (?!?), the error message I get when I try to activate the game is "You have entered an invalid Unlock Code:unlock code has invalid format". I wrote the D2D support team 2 days ago and so far I'm SOL, no response yet. If D2D has a count on the number of times one can activate the U-Boat Addon I may have exceeded it by now with the original key.

Anyway, I'll see if they get back with me soon, waiting 2 days on a trouble ticket with no response is giving me a cold feeling about them. Guess 10 bucks only gets you so far!! God bless them, everyone.

Thought I'd give an update on the Direct 2 Drive activation problem I have after trying to install the U-Boat Missions Addon which brings the 1.5 patch to your game.

In another thread regarding the Patch 1.5 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=144942) Rip's suggestion of Don't install it beneath Program Files. Just install the Ubisoft directory directly on the root of the drive. Otherwise Vista screws with write attempts on the files. I am running in Vista 64 and no majors issues. Not sure about the D2D but I have reinstalled mine a few times without issue.
I began to think about the specific properties of the Ubisoft folder on the default "Program Files" directory.

I didn't move the Ubisoft directory from the Program Files folder, but I opened the folder with a right click and went to its "Properties" page. Under "Attributes" I unmarked the "Read-only" setting, and hit the "Apply" key to change the properties of the Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folders and files. This will allow for both "read from" and "write to" action to this specific folder.

I found the shortcut to the "Games" folder in the C:\Users\"Your Name"\Music (?!? is this the folder the "Games Folder" is supposed to be in?) and found the SH4 game had already had a shortcut installed there. I moved the "Games" shortcut folder to my desktop from the "Music" folder and clicked the submarine icon. The game offered the same activation screen with my old activation key so I clicked the "Activate online" option. This time it went though successfully!!!! Yeaaaaaa, progress has been made. The game loaded and I'm back in business with the 1.5 patch installed. I haven't tried launching the game directly through the .exe file of the SH4 directory, but I suspect it will now that D2D was happy to confirm the activation key authenticity.

I have not heard from D2D yet, maybe today, about the question I asked. Thanks to some help from the SubSim forum though, my activation problem is solved.

I may be mistaken regarding D2D not helping (and probably fixing the issue). After I puffed out my chest thinking the above "Properties" file changes did the trick, I found that D2D had sent an E-Mail yesterday (Sunday) stating they had fixed the activation key issue on their end and all should be good now! :oops:

All you need is SH4 and the UBM add-on. Nothing else is needed. The UBM add-on will take SH4 to version 1.5.

I've been trying to hunt down a copy of UBM last few days. It's out of stock almost everywhere. Amazon.co.uk sells it for £35(!), all local stores here in Finland are out of stock even if they still list the title. It seems like after the eXclusive-release of SH4 came out all UBMs were pulled.

I want to download UBM but I live in Qatar and the site says U.S., Cananda and Mexico only. Is the geographic restrictions based on where I am or where my credit card is charged to? In the upper right corner of the browser there should be a region selection box. Set it to EU and should be able to purchase U-Boat Missions from where you are. I just realized this myself, and I haven't verified that it works, but I will give it a try tonight so I can finally get my hands on the expansion. :)

The Direct2Drive is going to Gamefly (maybe), Ubisoft still lists the add on pack, Steam still lists the add on.
Amazon lists the Gold edition which includes the add on, but from other sellers.

So I know this is sorta resurrecting a super-old thread (though the thread is stickied, so I'm not sure this is necroing! :hmmm: ). Anyway, I just wanted to say I'm glad I could support SubSim at the end of my dumb ordeal to get SH4 and UBM back up and running after a long absence!

I originally got SH4 and UBM from D2D as a bundle but now they seem to have dropped UBM from the server which bites since I needed to download it again for a new install.

I'm getting UBM from Neal's link at Amazon so I can reinstall everything. 600M in 8 minutes ... nice!

I just took delivery of U-Boat Missions disk.

I am trying to install it to a new copy of SH4 which is on my D: drive but the disk isn't letting me select where to install, it is going to the C: drive.

Edited: I let the disk run, it installed a few files to the C: drive then started to install on my D: drive to Ubisoft SH4, but when I looked on the versions I have on my D: drive I could find it, I have uninstalled it using the disk.

Any ideas?

Seems I already had this and didn't realise, when I open the sim I get the screen saying +U-Boat Missions.
I have an upgrade disk I got years ago, I downloaded it from somewhere and put it on a disk, when I installed SH4 I then installed this upgrade, I'm presuming it is the U-Boat Missions.

Anyway I went and bought a proper one thinking it was something different duh!

I did similar... I had purchased the initial release, which was supposed to come in a tin box with maps and pictures, and other memorabilia... they ran out of stock apparently, by the time they got to my name in the alphabet... v1.01g or some-such... about a year and a half later, they came out with the v1.5 "patch", but you had to pay for it... Insult! I am not paying for something that should have been done correctly 5 "patches" ago! Every patch fixed 3 things, and broke 2... Anyway, probably about the time I first started hanging around SubSim, I discovered I had lost my original disk. So I bought the "Gold Edition". Then just after that, I found my original disk, and Ubi had dropped the price on the Uboat Missions Add-on, so I bought it... but then I lost the original disk again, so I bought a v1.3 version of the game to go along with my add-on... Then my add-on went "bad", since it was a Ubisoft download and expired (it did what? you say?), so they sent me a "new" one... I could go on. Needless to say, I now have a Ubisoft UPlay version also, for my Win10 laptop, so three working copies. Some of my friends have learned to not have "game night" at my house, and my sons also avoid playing SH4 with me on the other computers, but I still have fun... lol

Now, all that blathering out of the way, the game and all of its updates do indeed write to the Windows Registry, generally found on the "C:" drive, as well as checking the DirectX stack... The "update instructions" are rather cryptic, and assume you are an employee of the company, and have been keeping up with their email instructions...

Ha Ha, thanks for the reply.

I've seen that lots of times with various sims/games they release an update and it supposed to fix or add something they forgot in the original version.
As for paying for it you are right because in a way they are admitting the original version was faulty and you bought it in good faith.

How many times do we read about someone's PC that was running fine then they got a Windows update and it caused a load of trouble, they Google it only to find lots of others are in the same situation.

No. Version 1.0x through version 1.4 are Pacific US boats only. Version 1.5, or the Gold Edition or the U-Boat Missions Add-On on top of v1.4 is the only way to do the German side of Silent Hunter 4. Ubisoft has Silent Hunter 4 Gold Edition (https://store.ubi.com/us/game/?lang=en_US&pid=56c4948988a7e300458b47fa&dwvar_56c4948988a7e300458b47fa_Platform=pcdl&edition=DLC&source=detail) is back up to $9.99 in the US store. The Steam store slightly confuses me - still... It used to be easy to tell, that you needed them both...
