Since SCS nowadays uses Maya instead of Max3D ... well, this could be really promising as long as SCS would part with their plugin to convert Maya stuff into J3D ...

@FT : Could you ask around and see if that would work?

Cheers

I have been looking into this and found no info at all about any plugin to convert maya files into J3D. Also, it seems the learning version leaves the maya logo on the models you create...

Maya is great ive been using it about 5 years now on and off trying to get to learn etc.. lots to cover for a single user though, not just modeling but textures, lighting etc.. list is endless...

Excuse the low loss quality images but here are two models I done while learning a while back..

Anyone here who can make comparisons to Blender? Thats the only modelling tool I have used recently (I used to do some Maya at University but thats ages ago). I want to know if its worth switching - I have not even learned to use Blender proper ..

To be more precise what I want: I come from a CAD/engineering background and I would like to have more direct control over object coordinates - Blender seems to support all kinds of freeform tools, sculpting but I am not an artist!

I even thought about creating my models in AutoCAD where I can control geometry directly then importing into Blender via DXF but that sounds too idiotic = reinventing the wheel.

Hey Luft lol,,

You want me to make you a heomaphrodite is that what ur saying lol...

Global.. I used to dable with blender many many moons ago, nice free app does alot of things, but I still prefer a more polished industry standard tool like maya, as far as coordinates go all high end apps ive used your able to manipulate with all tools with XYZ etc etc to precision. You can even export maya stuff to cad specific file formats for machining. (using plugins)

Moose.
