Let me start first,

I was playin the stock campaign Qingdao scenario as a Chinese Kilo platform tasked with escorting the Chinluk CVG. I know there's usually two 688i lurking nearby(I cheated once before) so i was dashin 16 knots at a time then to 4 knots to listen in order to cover the necesarry miles. Soon enough i detected a 688i in my sonar station which i manually operated then began my tracking with auto TMA. after a few minutes a solution appeared which put the 688i just about 5nm from my positon. without hesitation i fired three torpedoes(2 of them were wire guided set on active and one on passive unguided) in the mid of the attack the auto TMA repositoned the solution a couple of times at huge diferrent bearings so i guess there goes my passive torp but i still manually steered the 2 torp following the tma update and after minutes which seemed to took forever both torp hit somethin near the intended solution. I checked the demon and there was no more tpk lines so i was convinced that i've killed a 688i. So i continue the game with a proud feelin that i might get promoted for having achieved a spectacular kill. After an hour or two the Chinluk passed the assigned area which means that my job is finished. I never cheated by lookin at the status kill list but when the scenario was completed i found to my suprised that i've killed one of my own surface ship instead(Jianghu FF) and there was only a single 688i which was still lurking at some distance away never firing a single torp to attack the CVG. So instead of being promoted i guess i should be ready for a demotion:dead:. All that hours of pride vanished into thin air......guess you can never be sure when playin this game........:rotfl:

btw i don't think i misidentified the La688i it was a faint detection though....so much for auto TMA

A few things:

I once did a random quick mission in the Gulf of Mexico in a Seawolf. Killed everything in about two minutes (Han SSN, Two fishing boats, an Oiler). I set a random course (which happened to be South East), set the engine to ahead flank, and left for four hours.

I came back to find my boat beached somewhere on Cuba.

=======

I was in the `Perry FFG doing a mission I made myself. I was to find and kill a Kilo that was being tracked by two British Traffies. Found the "Kilo", let loose a torpedo to drive it to my waiting helo. The helo dropped a torpedo and killed it. I then wondered why the "mission accomplished" message did not come up. Found another sub, torpedoed it, and still no mission accomplished. I quit and looked at the After Action report.

If I was actually in the navy and did that, I would have been shot by my crew.

I never found that Kilo...

=======

Not to mention the numerous times I've accidentally rammed ships, shot down friendly aircraft, blew up houses with TLAMs, and intentionally put my ship deeper than crush depth.

This pic reminds me of the same scene in the movie Black Hawk Down. The two black hawk were passing each other somewhere along the coast of Somalia. Bloody excellent movie. It depicts war as it is: horrendous.

In an MP game once with a few player submarines, one of the Kilo players on my team had a connection issue and dropped out of the game.

About two hours later, I fired a Shkval in the middle of the op area at a nearby target... well the Shkval missed its target, but exploded near the end of it's run, much to my surprise.

Come to find out, after the mission is over, that I dead-eyed the Kilo hull of the player that had dropped two hours earlier... a once in a million shot! :arrgh!:

Cheers,
David

I was attacking a convoy with my kilo and I have a visual on a Tico class CG and I notice a couple of missiles launch from her forward VLS.
"Cool its launching a couple of SM-2 against a SSM attack" I think.
I watch the missile go up and up and up then curve down twoards me and splash down two miles behind me.
PIIIING!!
Control acustics torpedo in the water...

Then it dawns on me: ASROC!

And I launched active CMs to try to evade them. :rotfl:

In a different dive session, I had positioned myself behind my opponent by dumb luck. I should have been dead trying to get there. To top it all off, when I tried to kill him, I forgot to set the torpedo floors lower then the sub. 4 torpedoes later, I figured out the problem. With the floor set for one of my last 2 torpedoes, I knew the end was close. The end came closer than I expected when I was about to push the fire button and heard "Mission accomplished. Report for debrief.". "WTF?" I thought to myself. The moment of confusion allowed the mission to end without getting my sought after kill. It was truly a saved by the bell moment.

I hate time limits. :damn:

Another:

I was playing the the Kilo against merchant shipping with a critical objective of sinking an escorted Super Tanker. After killing the escort OHP, i went to periscope depth, measured the distance to the Super Tanker then refined my sonar solution when i suddenly heard pinging when i was about to launch my torps. I managed to launched three torpedoes(2 SET, 1 56K) at the tanker before enemy torp got to me.

So there i was viewing my status as being failed with three torpedoes still going to the Tanker bearing and two of the torp actually in the end hit the Tanker and killing it and the status changed to mission complete. And i was the hero of the Iranian Navy......

Turned out the torp that got me was launched from a P3C Orion. How do i know he was lurking by......:roll:

Funniest moment...

Turning around and finding my sonar man dead asleep and a waterfall full of contacts in a multistation LAN game where we killed a bottle of Crown Royal as we played.
