I'm sure many here, like myself, are drooling over the review for Naval Institute Guide to Modern Naval Weapon Systems.
Well here is a cheap solution: get the older edition. There are four:
1st edition: published in 1989
2nd edition: published in 1991
3rd edition: published in 1993, only has the update contents for 2nd edition
4th edition: published in 1997
Note that they aren't actually distinguished by "edition" but by the year of publication.
Naval Institute still offers the 1997 (4th) edition for 175 dollars. I found a brand new copy on eBay for 9.99, after shipping it is 16.8! The same dealer put up another copy after I bought one, so I'm sure he has more.
Look up: "Naval Institute Guide to Modern Naval Weapons Systems"
Apparently it took them 9 years to figure out the correct plural form for "weapon systems". :rotfl:
