Because i don't like this Hud Interface with the brown ugly gauges and displays i have change the colors of the displays to white. I also insert red borders to the buttons and gauges to give a nicer look.

And at last i changed the mark of dead or wounded seaman to get an easier information about theit status.

Looks too much like a christmas tree for me atm
Maybe make the pressed buttons red too, so there arent so many colors

I wonder if the speed and heading dials can be made to scale up to a larger size then what they do now...

Hello Neal,

I think this is a separate mod, but jimimadrid also made the Green Lamp mod, which can be found here...

[REL] Changed HUD Lamp Color (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108359)

His latest version of it can be found on the 2nd page.

I loaded the 'red' today and thought that down the road it will all be worked out ... little did I know that a couple of hours later and I'd be looking at a brass outline and the whole thing looking right on the money!

Thanks very much for all the hard work jimimadrid.

Very nice indeed ! I like the brass better too, and you made the front page !
Thank you sir.

Because of the very nice screen shot that you posted, might ask those assembled what the "lock" at the left end of the tool bar locks and unlocks ? I can find no reference to its use. My pre-order copy only arrived yesterday giving me some little excuse for my ignorance.
I'll still ask stupid questions after I've been fooling around with the game for months, but today I can hide behind this excuse. ;-)

Thanks gents,

Because of the very nice screen shot that you posted, might ask those assembled what the "lock" at the left end of the tool bar locks and unlocks ?

The "lock" forces the lower bar to stay on the screen. If you "unlock" it, that tool/status bar autohides. You have to put the mouse cursor at the bottom edge of the screen to be able to see the bar (options for the chosen station, fuel/battery/compressed air/CO2 levels, etc). You still see the tabs for the stations and three dials, but that's pretty much it.

Thanks.
An application called JSGME will make your mod installing a lot easier. Just put the jsgme.exe into your SH4 folder.

It will create a mod folder in your sh4 directory when you first run it. Put all compatible mods in here. A compatible mod will be in the folder structure of: Modname\Data
So all mods will be in the mods folder: SH4\Mods\Modname\Data
Run the JSGME application to activate the mods you want.

Get the latest version of JoneSoft Generic Mod enabler here: http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/products/jsgme_setup.exe

I've used this tool with SH3 so I don't know what's going on.

There are many small details in the UI in this game that ruin the "1940s" immersion. Nearly all of the icons have a very modern, computerish look, and the push buttons are very 1970's.

So here is a challenge, and I'm not sure how you would do this, but could the buttons be made to look more like somthing you would actually see on a 1930/40s sub, and could the icons have a period feel to them too?

(this of course would be less of an issue if they had just put more clickable controls in the 3d interior!)

I installed this mod and notice that when I click on the button, while holding the mouse button it does change from yello to green but when I let go it changes it back to yellow.

Based on the screenshots that I have seen it appears to me that the button changes from yellow to green. Am I missing something?

I had patch 1.1 installed prior to this mod. I used the jsgme to install the shiny mod.

Thanks!

Ok idiot here!
I added this mod to the mod manager it says it is activated but in game I get nothing.
What excatly do I copy into the mod folder. I tried putting in the whole folder in the Mod folder, but when that did not work I tried single files but I only see the mod in the enabler if the folder is copied as per the instructions and not the individual files. What am I doing wrong as I have followed all the procedures that they say do.
I already have .rar so all is unzipped ok and nothing is a rar file.

Mark, you can also unpack the files, note the file heirarchy, and then copy the originals, and drop the modded files in. Easy.

I'm not complaining....your work is VERY GOOD!

I installed the mod correctly...the problem wasn't your mod. I just never knew I could switch gauges. Therefore I have only seen the default gauges which are displayed on the bottom row of your screenshot. I am new to the Silent Hunter Series, in fact this is my first. So when I saw your updated screenshot changing the red borders to shiny with gauges I never seen...Wow... I thought you created them. It's kind of funny... nowhere has there been a screenshot posted with the knots and rudder dials...that I've seen, until you posted one.
In other words... I thought you were a genius for creating NEW gauges...oops:oops:
Thanks ever so much for your reply and for the GREAT JOB with the NEW GAUGES

jimimadrid--s_shinyborder_Hud.rar conflicts with Real Medals v1.01. Is there a simple way to merge the 2 onto the CrewSystemsManagement.dds, so they don't conflict? I'm guessing it's simply the rearrangement of medals in Real Medals?

I'll ask fullmetaledges too.

Here you get a new CrewSystemsManagement.dds with the new Medals and my Icons. Replace with this the one in Real Medals, and delete it from my shinyborder_Hud. So no conflicts will occur.

Great work!.

Now I have a question/problem, about the HUD.dds, Im trying to insert new icons in the "blank" buttons added in a mod (the old orders of SH3 that not appear in SH4) I convert the HUD.dds to photoshop format to edit, make the changes, save it in Photoshop format, and convert it again in .dds file. But when I starts the sim and enter in the sub I saw this black background over the green and yellow buttons...

Look in the "Alpha" channel in photoshop, I am pretty sure that's your problem. That's like a mask. If anything is blocked in the "Alpha" (black) it will not show up properly in the game. And when you save use the DXT 5 Interpolated Alpha.

Hola Antenor,
please use this photoshop plugin to load and save direct the dds files.

http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/fil...XT_Tools;14169 (http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Photoshop_Plugin_NVDXT_Tools;14169)

if you use new icons, take care to renew the alphachannel.

Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\ReplayElements.dds was modified by 1.2 patch

Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\ReplayElements.dds is not part of the shiny border Hud. The only thing i noticed, is that the i use on 1.2 a fixed red needle to show the periscope depth and the max depth of the u-boat.
Now there are 2 red neddles on the display. Unfortunally they use the same needle image for both, so that it will be hard to get a good color combination for both needles.

I'm working on it.

Hi, I installed patch 1.2 after removing modes. Then I started reinstaling them, and....your mode will not reinstall with out CTR! Damn, how am I supposed to deal with this game with that Nav screen? Your retro tools/hud were just great, and I can't get used to the crap that I now see again.

Any chance that you might be able to bring this great mode up to 1.02? I for one, would be very grateful.

On a second note I guess I didn't explain myself well on the shinny Brass hud in the Compuss / rudder control guage was wondering if a permenant pointer or indicator could be mounted on the outer ring showing your heading on the cumpas it's self
like maybe the semmy transparent ones that are on the possition keepers with that little yellow line.
I hope i understand your request correctly. Do you need something like this?

A great mod indeed. :yep: Is it possible to integrate "Battle Stations and Silent Running buttons on all Hud menu by Iceberg", "Mini-chronometer by chomu" and "Pull Down Pacific Map by Captain Fox" to the next version of the mod in order to create it even better. :D

None of your described mods should get in trouble with the shiny Hud mod, because all of them use different files as my mod.

@CaptainCox. All of your mods shows that you are a real fox in modding SH4.

(Here in Germany this means to you are clever guy)

The "Pull Down Map" mod does some pretty serious changes in the menu_1024_768.ini. So my recommendation would be to read the read me and pop in the code lines manually. There is also a separate download with only the code for manual install.

Could someone let me know how to install this mod over SH4 1.3? I can't find any of the entries listed as needing to be changed manually. I suspect the file has changed since verison 1.2.

Thanks!

Bill

Are you looking for the Green light HUD or jimimadrid's HUD's?
Plug "jimimadrid HUD" into the download search, or "jimimadrid" - there they are with CapnScurvey 'stoo - as you'll see.
