Different Sonar? |

Last night I saw the movie Crimson Tide again. And I was wondering about the sonar equiptment there. The sonar operators use a very starge sonar display. It looks alot like a radar. And nothing like a waterfall display. I wondered if this was another instrument not avalible in SC, or somthing special about the Ohio class...
Can anyone answer my question?

It's called 'movie sonar'. Those radar style screens are easy for the general movie going public to understand. If they showed real working sonar screens, most people would say 'what the...?'. Only us nuthead subsim freaks would understand...
